Generation W Staff Scholarships
The Generation W staff works very hard to make this company a success, and in doing so, they deserve to be rewarded.
Graduating seniors* who have spent at least one year working as staff with the Generation W Newspaper will qualify to apply for a Generation W Youth Scholarship.
The Generation W Advisory Board and two youth on the Generation W staff that are not graduating seniors will screen each submitted application.
Separate selection criteria will be set based on Generation W staff positions. These are the following categories:
- Department Heads
- Department heads must attend 90% of all Deptartment Head meetings.
- Department heads must undergo a performance evaluation on how well the staff worked as a team.
- Department heads must meet deadlines.
- Editorial Staff
- Editorial staff members must attend 80% of all Editorial Staff meetings.
- Editorial staff members must undergo a performance evaluation.
- Editorial staff members must edit a minimum of 25 articles and paginate a minimum of 10 pages.
- Sales and Ad Staff
- Sales/Ad staff members must attend 80% of their staff meetings.
- Sales/Ad staff members must undergo a performance evaluation.
- Sales staff members must attempt to sell to a minimum of 20 businesses per school year.
- What it is to be a Department Head, or a member of the Sales/Ad/Editorial Staff.
- Why you chose to be on the Generation W staff.
- What you have gained from working on the Generation W staff.
- Why meeting deadlines is important to production.
- Include best and worst experiences working at Generation W.
It is the student's responsibility to submit his/her grades in order to be awarded the scholarship. The student must submit a copy of the grades earned during his/her first non-summer semester of college. The student must be full-time taking at least 12 credits per semester and maintain a minimum "C" (2.0 on a 4.0 scale) average at the end of the Spring semester. It is the student's responsibility to notify the Generation W Advisory Board if he/she drops below the minimum standards required to receive the scholarship. Scholarship checks will be distributed on/after May 15th. Falsifying information or failing to report changes in academic status will result in the forfeiture of the scholarship.
Application Procedure
- Complete all questions on the application forms.
- Attach any additional information not covered by questions on the application forms.
- Application must be received by May 1 to be eligible to receive funding.

* In order to qualify for a scholarship, you must be an active Generation W staff member until the completion of the July issue for the year in which you graduate from High School.
