"You are the only exception” and “ignorance is your new best friend” are just a couple of the great lyrics that come from the band, Paramore, in their newest album Brand New Eyes. Released on September 29, 2009, it’s the alternative rock band’s third album and also the most successful one to date. The first single released from this album was the song called “Ignorance,” which was successful, charting in the top thirty in multiple places. It was also taken very well by music critics. The lead singer and keyboardist, Hayley Williams, has also gotten very good reviews. Andrew Leahey of Allmusic gave a positive review, saying, “Brand New Eyes presents Paramore as a stronger, leaner, and altogether more consistent band.”

When the album was released, there were two versions: a standard CD edition and a deluxe one. The deluxe included acoustic versions of the songs “Where The Lines Overlap” and “Ignorance,” a journal written by Williams, a poster, a booklet with the lyrics from all of the songs, and many more things. Brand New Eyes sold 175,000 copies in its first week and entered the Billboard 200 at number 2. All of the music on the album was composed by Williams and Josh Farro or Taylor York. Farro and York are both a part of the band. Farro plays lead guitar/rhythm guitar and backing vocal. York plays lead guitar/rhythm guitar. The bass guitar is played by Jeremy Davis and the drums/percussion is played by Zac Farro.

The album opens with “Careful” and “Ignorance,” two fresh and solid tracks. Into the album is the song “The Only Exception” which slows things down a bit. “Misguided Ghosts” is unique and unlike something we’ve heard from Paramore before. The band continues with a catchy song called “Looking Up,” which is about the band and how they came back together from almost breaking up. Then it finishes strong with “All I Wanted.”

Overall, Paramore has been a very successful band. There are many things, from Hayley’s amazing vocal skills to the great rock beat to the meaningful lyrics, that are easy to love about Paramore. Lyrics in “Looking Up” say, “God knows the world doesn’t need another band, but what a waste it would have been. I can’t believe we almost hung it up. We’re just getting started,” and I agree with those lyrics. Brand New Eyes is definitely an album worth listening to.
